We love cleaning in Ashfield
Ashfield is a suburb about eight kilometers from the Sydney Central Business District and is in the Inner West suburb. Ashfield is majorly multicultural and for a suburb in Australia, it has a relatively high urban density with most of the buildings being a combination of mainly post-war low-rise apartments and detached Federation-era houses. Amongst these are a number of big Victorian buildings that offer a hint of Ashfield’s rich cultural heritage.
Talking about the history of Ashfield, the name was Ashfield was gotten from one of the Scottish homes of Campbell. He purchased a lot of farmland from Lieutenant John Townson who was one of the first colonists to live there, the land was given to him as a grant in the late 18th century.
The land was passed across the Underwood family, part of the land was given to St John’s Church of England about 5 acres. The foundation stone of the famous old church was laid by the very first colony’s bishop, Bishop Broughton. The Underwood home was eventually purchased by the Roman Catholic Church and was converted into a convent of the order of Our Lady of the Snows.
The present area of Ashfield Park, the house of Joseph Underwood was sold to Henry Kable, it was sold by the brother of Joseph Underwood it was eventually acquired as public parkland. The small village is now a fast-growing suburb. Several early members of the council are remembered in local street names like Clissold street is named after an alderman, Fredrick Clissold, in Ashfield’s first council.
