The story behind the naming of the suburb is quite an interesting one as the name was gotten from the home of the Weedon family, the residence was called the Cannon Hill house and it was located on the Wynnum Road. But that’s not the interesting part, it comes when the Thornhill Weedon named the house after two fallen trees which were said to have looked like a cannon. The suburb has been recorded to have about, 5,533 residents in Cannon Hill.

The suburb has had an interesting history a few decades ago, the early settlers in the suburb used the area for farming and grazing but largely it remained bushland. Cannon Hill paddock was one of the first places where the Hendra virus was transmitted it sadly claimed a life but the place has been turned into housing and parkland. In general, the suburb is a quiet and low-key area with peaceful surrounding, kind of has a village feel to it.
